Worth Living planned and hosted a Mental Health Conference held in Halifax on May 31, 2019.
We had therapy dogs and Global News were present all morning for interviews. The local municipal councilor attended to welcome everyone and a smudge ceremony was held which set the tone for the day.
We had several speakers and a panel discussion. A wellness room was available in case an attendee became distressed and needed a safe space.
The Executive Director of the Canadian Mental Health Association Nova Scotia attended.
As a result, Worth Living was retained by CMHA NS by way of an MOU, with two mandates.
The first is to enhance the presence of CMHA NS on Cape Breton Island by going into the community. CMHA NS is better known and respected now in Cape Breton through efforts of Worth Living. It has several ongoing partnerships with Membertou First Nations, Membertou Men’s Society, Community CARES Youth Outreach, United Way Cape Breton, and New Dawn Enterprises, among others
The second mandate was to plan and host two conferences, one in Halifax, the other in Sydney. Although government funding was secured to stage these vents, the global pandemic dictated that planning would need to be postponed.
Another Worth Living Conference will be held when public health guidelines clearly permit.
